2. Specific main focuses of medical care

The institute’s quality management system is successfully certified according to DIN EN ISO since fall of the year 2000. The statutory extensive re-certifications were successfully passed at each time.

• This institute being the central laboratory is responsible for the laboratory diagnostic assistance of the Clinical Center Augsburg (three locations: Central Clinical Center, Children’s Clinic, Clinical Center Augsburg South). In addition, four more clinics of the region are supported with laboratory diagnostics.
• Per year ca. 5.7 million tests are made from various body fluids (blood, urine, liquor), smears, puncture specimens, lavages, biopsies and other materials.
• In case of emergency, a wide spectrum of examinations and tests is instantly available 24 hours on 7 days per week.
• Professional specialist support in medical and diagnostic questions is rendered to all inquiring clinics. Great importance is attached to coagulation physiologic, transfusion medical, microbiologic-infectiologic, immunologic, hygienic and environment medical advice.
• Medical specialists of five respective subjects (laboratory – microbiology / virology – hygiene / environmental medicine – transfusion medicine – internal medicine) are active at this institute.
• This institute is one of the few acknowledged liquor specialist labs in Germany and is an advanced professional training laboratory in this special field.
• Producing of autologous stored blood (self blood donation), of thrombocyte and granulocyte
• concentrates from an own donator collective as well as of autologous and allogenous stem cells.

3. Further services offered

•  The head of this institute possess full authorization to postgraduate professional education in the field of laboratory
  medicine as well as for subject “hygiene and environmental medicine”. The deputy head of this institute possess
  authorization to postgraduate professional education for two years in transfusion medicine.
• Extensive quality assurance and documentation measures in the course of preanalytics and analytics including regular  articipation in interlaboratory tests comply with the recommendations by diverse specialist associations
  and go far beyond statutory provisions.
• The institute’s department “environment ambulance“ is cooperation partner of the Environment Medical
  Center in well-practiced cooperation with the Clinic for Dermatology, the Medical Clinics, the Clinic for
  Otolaryngology, and the II. Clinic for Children and Adult Persons.
• Periodical institute-internal and clinic-overreaching advanced professional training events are held.
